On The Hunt for

Cover-Up Inspiration

Moments after the above Sidney Garber Mother’s Day email popped into my inbox, I asked Brooke about the linen cover-ups she and her daughter are wearing. Picked up on her travels, naturally.

Since Saint-Tropez and Saint Barts are not on my calendar, I stopped by my local James Perse store to peruse the new arrivals. I did not leave empty handed — the linen Pintuck dress in black and in white, and the High Low skirts are what I was hunting for. I’m going to try the open tunic next.

Pretty In Pale

Celadon is my favorite color, along with pale yellow. When I spied this Mrs. Alice Eiderdown in Colefax and Fowler silk, I bought two. The sizing is odd, yet perfect for my needs. I’m waiting  for these beige Valentino Mary Jane Flats that, to my eye, skew pink. And, Sidney Garber’s Honeycomb Earrings in rose gold are delectable.

The Carven Organza Skirt

I bought this Carven organza skirt in off-white, but I’m posting this color to illustrate how I’ve been wearing it — over another slightly longer skirt or slip dress with the cream double wrap belt.

Augustinus Bader x Sofia Coppola

Today, Augustinus Bader launched a Tinted Lip Balm in partnership with Sofia Coppola. A discontinued lipstick inspired Ms. Coppola to collaborate with the beloved skin care brand. There are three shades of The Tinted Balm — I bought #1 a sheer deep pink and #2 a red coral. Will let you know. However, I can vouch for the untinted Augustinus Bader lip balm — it’s heavenly.

The Carven Belt

I bought the Carven double wrap belt in cream and in black and love both. Hardware is gold, which I also love.

Dior’s ‘Lily of the Valley’ Afternoon Tea at The Lowell

Tomorrow, May 1 — Fête du Muguet in France — Dior and The Lowell will begin serving afternoon tea service at the hotel’s restaurant, Majorelle. The house of Dior created everything from the tableware to the menu. Cookies in the shape of the brand’s signature Bar Jacket are a très chic treat.

Dior Maison’s afternoon tea will be served from 12:30 to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.

Boho Chic Is Back

Just as I’ve stored all of my Isabel Marant items from 2010 – 2012, boho chic has come roaring back. The resurgence is mostly due to Chemena Kamali’s debut collection for Chloé where she resurrected the fun, feminine, cool-girl style that made the Chloé label so beloved.

I spent this past weekend with a very chic friend at the GCA Annual Meeting. She mentioned her love of boho chic, which got me thinking about how I will reintroduce this easy trend back into my wardrobe. Firstly, I will unbox the Isabel Marant dresses, then I will look for a skirt. This WAIMARI tiered skirt is perfect, yet extremely long. For my tall readers, this one is for you. Paired with classic accessories like DKF‘s drool-worthy estate jewelry and these Prada sandals is my more mature and pared back approach to 2024 boho chic.

On My Mind

Sunday

It’s grey and cool so I’m attempting to declutter my desk. I now have two work spaces, having recently taken over the front guest bedroom. One office for kic and one for reading, garden planning, i.e. non-kic endeavors. However, it’s never a clean line between the two. This new space is the first domino. Converting the barn to accommodate guests, and finally wallpapering the dining room have been put to the fore. I got a bit overwhelmed when we took on this house, and I’m now ready to finish it. As we are looking for an apartment in Paris, I need this house to be done — I am not one for never-ending projects and redecorating.

Hence, I am going through pictures the girls made for me over the years, polaroids of models I cast from the ’90s — mid-aughts, family photos, thank you notes from Irving Penn, Helmut Lang and so many incredible people I worked with, and endless amounts of personal ephemera. It all invokes powerful memories of beloved people, places, and times. My mother-in-law just sent me her grandmother’s Verdura Curb-Link bracelet from the 1940s. The fact that it was worn by three generations of women in my husband’s family before it came to me is extraordinarily powerful. Jewelry designer Brooke Garber Neidich talks about the profound effect jewelry, especially heirlooms, can have on the wearer. The beauty is that I can wear and enjoy the bracelet every day, unlike the piles of stuff I am sifting through.

Wishing everyone a relaxing Sunday, xp

Bits & Bobs

An Agnes Baddoo Market Tote tops my Mother’s Day gift list. Sadly, my girls rarely read kic so I’ll have to drop a hint some other way. The Dries Van Noten denim skirt with belt loops and a pleat ticks all the boxes.  A friend forwarded me The English Room with a post on gorgeous Lulie Wallace small quilts — another Mother’s Day item. New books from two of my favorite authors are out/soon to be out — Christopher Tilghman’s On The Tobacco Coast and Claire Messud’s This Strange Eventful History. After years of passively looking for a small black pouch, I picked up this one by The Row — it’s perfect.
