This Moncler jacket was atop my the-ones-that-got-away list. When it popped up (new with tags!) on The RealReal listed under Fair Isle, my heart skipped a beat. The jacket is still available on numerous e-commerce sites, but my size is long gone.
Sometimes it takes me a bit to really love something and by the time I want it, it’s sold out. If it shows up on a resale site, I’m thrilled to have a second chance. My buying credo is to acquire pieces that go the distance, so I am not concerned about which season they come from, just that I can find them. Thanks to the plethora of resale sites, it’s now so much easier to find items that I regret having taken a pass on.
On another note, these Eddie Bauer boots are my recent fashion hack — comfortable, waterproof, inexpensive — perfect for urban hiking.
“And it isn’t even Mercury Retrograde” said my daughter when I explained why I was in NYC and not London. While driving to JFK in a nor’easter last evening I should have foreseen that things would go from bad to worse… Surprisingly, the flight was on time, but then an engine blew on takeoff and we were subsequently grounded smack in the middle of the runway until 2 am. Home again, home again, jiggety-jig.
However, I did pack for London. After a post on my meagre Paris packing list — the same clothes I wear every day at home — it was time for a shake up. For this quick trip I challenged myself to include a few of my favorite pieces that I stupidly “save”. In a 2015 post I swore that I would stop doing this, but some habits are hard to break.
So, I pulled out a carefully stored black polished calfskin Marni Trunk, a rarely-out-of-the-garment-bag Bottega Veneta trench, and a gold Tank watch that hasn’t seen the light of day in ages. Black jeans, a black sweater, and these waterproof boots (with black laces) completed my inflight outfit. The Trunk is phenomenal for traveling, it can be worn any length and the compartments keep me organized.
I’m off to London for a few days to see my sister and have thrown these three items in my bag. ‘Olive, Again’ is out today! and my new iPhone 11 Pro is perfection — a better camera, it’s waterproof, has longer battery life, and comes in the best color, yet — ticked all the boxes.

Last month I went to Paris for the weekend with just a handful of sweaters. An ancient, grey, Irish cable knit cardigan was my topper in lieu of a jacket — perfect for cool weather — it goes over anything.
So, I started to look for an updated version and found one by I love Mr. Mittens, a line of knitwear by Belgian designer Stéphanie Caulier. I’ll let you know.
In my last post I noted that I don’t need a new trench, however, a classic, belted style has, for years, eluded me and would be a smart addition to my wardrobe. I have and love the Bottega Veneta above on Linn Hagglund, but I’m going to see if I can, finally, find a more traditional style at APC or Burberry. To be continued…
A trench would be the obvious item to highlight today as we head into a week of rainy days, but the trench has been on everyone’s radar for so many seasons already — and how many do you actually need?
Sweaters are a different story, the more the merrier. Long time readers know that I’m a Fair Isle fanatic and am constantly adding to my collection.
I have the black &Daughter sweater above. Worn with a cotton mock turtleneck resolves the itchy issue. And I’m going to try the Ralph Laurenbottom today. I only want one in brown, so it’s either the Celineabove or Frame‘s, which I posted on last week.
Paris had many nice moments, it was a solid season with a lot to wear. I loved the straw hats at Dior, everything at Valentino — especially the white dresses, the tonal opening look at Givenchy (Suzanne Koller styles the show…), Celine’s denim jacket and printed dress, and this skirt and blouse from the recently relaunched Patou.
These Saint Laurent boots and denim Bermuda shorts will be mine.
And, a round up of my favorite dresses: Valentino, Hermès, Chanel, and Dries Van Noten.
As the weather cools, it’s the perfect time to stock up on fall basics. NET-A-PORTER makes it easy with a 15% OFF code, NEWNOW15, valid 9/30 – 10/09. Here are all the brands included in this promotion. A few items in this post qualify.
I’ve based each look on straight-leg leather pants — they are great dressed up or down. With a trim blazer gets 5 stars.
After 20 years casting models for Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and fashion shows, I wanted to spend more time with my daughters. KiC is my way to share my thoughts on fashion and style. I believe style should permeate every aspect of our lives — from home, to family, to where we go, and naturally, what we wear — especially when we're just running around. — Preston Davis
