In the comments on my previous post, a few folks reminded me of Ann Mashburn’s Faye pants. Duh, I have a pair in white denim and they are exactly what I’m looking for. While I wait for the black waffle version to come back in stock, I bought a pair in grey. Maybe I’ll figure out a way to wear my Cecilie Bahnsen cable-knit vests with them. I bought the vests in grey and black a few years ago and I’m still struggling with how to style them. Over a black dress has been my best look so far. And, these A Emery sandals are totally random and very cute. If I didn’t have a binful of similar styles, I would have clicked ‘buy’ already.

One glaring hole in my wardrobe is a good-looking everyday pair of pants. Comfortable as jeans and not tailored trousers is the goal. I posted on High Sport when it launched in November 2021 and now I’m circling back. Skirts in mid-winter are not always ideal. Paired with the Chloé ballet flats above or slingbacks, these High Sport pants could fill that hole nicely.
Travel

Paris in January is great — no crowds and the city feels intimate and relaxed. It was fun to be there for the launch of the Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama collaboration — they went all out. The ‘Monet – Mitchell’ exhibition at the Fondation Louis Vuitton was well worth the trek. Honestly, the Frank Gehry designed building is always worth the trek. This trip we stayed at the recently opened Château Voltaire. I loved everything about it — the service, the location, the private spa — it’s my new favorite hotel. Their restaurant is superb, too, and we ate there almost every night. As planned, I picked up the Perfumer H room spray, lingerie, and two copies of Virginie Mouzat’s book ‘Le dernier mot’ at Le Bon Marché. In the early ’80s I studied in Paris, Marc Jacobs was my classmate and good friend that summer. These Saint Laurent boots give me a vibe from that amazing time and I couldn’t resist. As I was coming home through passport control at JFK, the officer just stared at me then finally said “I’m trying to figure out what you’re wearing.” The Perfect Moment down sweater gets loads of comments, but that topped them all.

When I was considering this Saint Laurent hobo I noticed that women, like Anya Rubik above, were not wearing it on their shoulder. Undaunted, I ordered it anyway. When it slid off my shoulder and I was about to send it back, I popped on a Purse Gummy — problem solved. I just wore this bag in Paris for 3 days straight. It held a small umbrella, hat, plus all the essentials. I use the silicone strips on my Gucci Horsebit 1955 bags, too, they would never stay put otherwise.
This bag reminds me of my beloved Gucci hobos I wore in the ’90s.
Tips

I love a list of tips and this one on maintaining woolens by W.ICONS is pretty good. Depilling is my specialty.
On My Mind

This image from @vieffestyle reminds me of the rule of three as I pack for Paris. I keep looking at the Altuzarra self-tie sweater in black — it’s such an easy piece and I should’ve bought it for this trip. This small Saint Laurent hobo is coming with me, it’s more spacious than it looks. In Paris I’m going to pick up the new Perfumer H room spray at Le Bon Marché and Virginie Mouzat‘s Le denier mot to help me brush up on my French.

The prettiest gift I received over the holidays was this set of scalloped paper trays by Willow Crossley, a floral designer based in the Cotswolds. I have them on the coffee table as catchalls. Thank you , SK, you know me well.
Collections

My three takeaways from the Dior PF23 collection are: an ankle-grazing, sleeveless tunic is a trend (see Attersee post), belting a parka is always chic, and that Maria Grazia Chiuri, without question, designs the best dresses.
On My Mind

Now that the holidays are in the rearview, I’m trying to do a bit of catch up. I finally read Marcia DeSanctis’s A Hard Place To Leave — it’s superb. And I’m trying to see Living before I leave for Paris next week. The Anri Sala exhibition at Bourse de Commerce Pinault Collection tops my Paris to-do list. And, I live in these hiking boots in black and just bought a pair in beige. Speaking of beige, I’m struggling to find a beige polish that suits me, so in the meantime, I’m going dark brown.

A cozy New Year’s Eve à deux sounds like the perfect ending to a good and busy 2022. Even though it’s just the two of us at home, I’ll add a little sparkle. I snapped up the Commission skirt when it went on sale and the Chanel slingbacks have been a workhorse in my wardrobe this fall and winter — worth every penny. I have many similar grey sweaters to this Bottega Veneta, although, if it goes on sale I won’t hesitate to add it to my collection.
