On My Mind

I thought I would get out of my office where portraits of Mother and CZ Guest watch over my every sartorial move.
This is the season of events where I need to be ‘dressed’ and the leather jacket by The Slate and Saint Laurent slingbacks will get a lot of wear. The Khaite harness adds a bit of interest to an otherwise staid look. Swap the Bottega skirt for jeans and it becomes one of my current favorite outfits.
When I put up this post I realized that I’m standing just like my daughter in the photo on the bookshelf — apple didn’t fall far from the tree.
On My Mind

Over the summer I tinkered with a number of items. For example, I would never wear the Khaite harness with the long streamers so my brilliant seamstress lopped them off and sewed them down. She, also, gave this Ralph Lauren blazer an overhaul — sleeves shortened and shoulders tightened. Maybe not a great look with white jeans (they never do me any favors), but you get the idea and the Chanel slingbacks are very comfy. The white shirt I ordered at Crimson in Paris week before last was just delivered — love the tonal monogram.

On My Inspiration Board

Fashion Brand consultant Débora Brosa’s personal style inspires me to wear shades of cream into fall. I have the black Samabas and they look good with the COS off-white denim skirt — a look I may copy.
It Items

Cream/ivory/off-white is perfect for early fall and Khaite’s got you covered. The short sleeve sweater and denim midi skirt are a pairing I love right now.
Tote, boots, jeans.
It Item

I’m a diehard skinny, bootcut jeans fan. So, when I started looking for a straight-leg pair this NET-A-PORTER style guide, with Elin Kling and Catherine Holstein weighing in, was tremendously helpful. I bought three pairs — a dark wash by Frame, these by Totême above, and a wider-leg pair by Khaite — I love them all.
Style Setter

Alison Loehnis, President of Net-a-Porter and Mr Porter at YOOX NET-A-PORTER GROUP is this week’s #iconsgirl and with good reason. I first met Alison when she joined NET-A-PORTER 15 years ago and have long admired her personal style. W.ICONS has a great Q&A with the NYC-raised, London-based style setter, industry insider, and Chapin alum. As Laura, ICONS eic, notes in her editor’s letter “(Alison is) also one of the most effortlessly chic people I know, and has a way of dressing that is both timeless yet full of personality” — hear, hear.

NYFW Collections

Khaite is one of the only shows I tune into during NYFW. Designer Catherine Holstein told Vogue that she designs for “(t)hat independent, New York, strong, stealth woman” — a woman I appreciate and know well. The bubble silhouettes and soft draping are superb.
Must-Read

Edward Enninful, editor in chief of British Vogue and the European editorial director for Vogue, is a really great guy with an incredible life story. His memoir, A Visible Man, was released yesterday and I only wish it had been published earlier so I could’ve read it on my flights to and from Paris last week.
Travel

I met my husband in Paris last week for a brief and very fun two day getaway. We stayed in the uber residential 16th and watched adorable children start the school year. For the first time in seemingly forever I do not have a child returning to school, which is wonderful and, yet, very weird.
The Bourse de Commerce — Pinault Collection was the highlight of the trip. It opened spring 2021 and the film chronicling the renovation of the historic building is fascinating. I popped into British perfume maker Lyn Harris’s recently opened Perfumer H outpost in the Marais to pick up her new scent, Bergamot. And, ordered a monogrammed white shirt from Crimson.
The perfect quick trip.
Beauty

Just when I was thinking that my mascara could use an upgrade, an email for the new Chanel Noir Allure Mascara popped up in my inbox — serendipitous.
