Beautiful Things

Nicola Peltz Beckham’s Valentino couture wedding dress is breathtaking — elegance is a beautiful thing. I’m working on a post about the Colombian designers behind Moye Design, sisters Tatiana and Maria Cabal, and their new wallpaper line – this guava print is a teaser. Nikolai Von Bismark’s images for The Bloomsbury Set, a new book by Fendi artistic director Kim Jones, are stunning. The Saint Laurent Rive Droite stores in Paris and LA are exhibiting works by Belgian artist Bruno V. Roels. Anthony Vaccarello created an exclusive line of products based on Roels’ palm trees. Finally, I have a number of shoulder bags with straps that extend to be worn crossbody but, when I do, the snaps pull my hair. My Dior Bobby is snapless and this Saint Laurent bag (medium here) would work beautifully, too.

Rainy Days

It’s been raining A LOT. I have a beloved trench, but it’s long and not ideal for getting in and out of the car. When I spied this Burberry poncho a lightbulb went off in my head. I’ve always loved rain ponchos and still have one (even though it’s unwearable) from Marc’s second collection for Louis Vuitton. The bucket hat is good, too.

On My Mind

Super Duper Random

This Victoria Beckham dress looks like the perfect grab-and-go piece, just hoping the color suits me. Did you know you can roast gnocchi? I didn’t and now I make it all the time. This NYT’s recipe is excellent. The Black Keys finally put out a new album and the songs I’ve listened to are really good. I had my daughters’ portraits painted when they were little. Now that they are in their 20s, I’m looking for an artist to paint them, again, in a completely different style. A dear friend encouraged me to layer scents and it’s changed how I buy perfume. I can’t wait to try Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria line, the Nerolia Vetiver has all my favorite notes. The newly released YSL Lexicon is fabulous, and the reviews of Slow Horses, with Gary Oldman and Kristen Scott Thomas, say it’s a must-watch series.

Bon

Thank you, Gail, for mentioning Bon, a boutique in Tucson, Arizona that carries hats similar to Kendall’s. I reached out to the owners — Bonnie and Crystal Flynt — and, hopefully, the hats will be back in stock end of April. The raffia tote is on its way to me.

Kendall Conrad Inspired

An easy dress, flat sandals, straw hat, and the perfect tan bag = my ideal summer look. Designer Kendall Conrad is her own best model — simply stunning.

April Vanity Fair France

‘Or Norme’

I’m obsessed with ceramics recently and there seems to be a plethora of new ceramists.  Photographer Benjamin Vigliotta styled this jewelry spread for April Vanity Fair France with warm gold and cool porcelain — brilliant .

The Perfect Birks

Birkenstock’s 1774 collection is great and I bought these. I love how versatile they are — can be dressed up or down — the perfect Birks.

On My Mind

Personal Vintage

I was joking with a friend yesterday that I should turn kic into my own personal vintage site since I’ve been wearing a lot of really old pieces lately. But, that’s the goal — to wear what I have for as long as I can. This came up because we both have the A Ross Girl skirt left and I sent her this picture of it shortened to my knee. She asked about the sweater, which is J. Crew early aughts (maybe late ’90s even), as are the Prada kitten heel pumps. The grey wool Miu Miu skirt right, one of my most beloved pieces of clothing, is circa 2002. Hopefully, the Saint Laurent chain belt helps keep everything from looking too dug-out-of-a-bin.

Girl Guide

I love girl guide style and this A.P.C. camp shirt (tied at the waist would work, too) with the matching skirt has my name all over it.

Books and exhibitions

To Read & See

This is sort of a catch-all post of books I’ve ordered and exhibitions I want to see. One Italian Summer looks like a fun read, Elena Ferrante’s In The Margins: On the pleasures of reading and writing, and my friend Stacey Bewkes’ new book At Home are already on my bedside table. A Hard Place To Leave out May 3, Emma Straub’s This Time Tomorrow out May 17, and French Braid by Anne Tyler is out next week.  The Whitney Biennial opens April 6 (March 31 to members) and ‘Romy Schneider, L’ Exihibition’ at the Cinémathèque in Paris is up until July 16.
