Crazy For Navy

Last week I rode in Frame jeans that have a lot of stretch. I took pairs that haven’t seen the light of day in quite a while. Dark denim is a struggle for me to style, therefore, a dude ranch was the perfect setting to wear them. While packing, I grabbed a navy crewneck sweater that my daughter wore in middle school. Out West

My daughters and I are at the CM Ranch in Dubois, Wyoming. The girls are the fourth generation — on the Wasson side of the family — to visit the ranch. Aside from my boots, I challenged myself to not pack any black clothing. I bought the Ganni boots in black because I knew I’d wear them long after this trip. To my surprise, I have not been laughed out of Dubois for wearing Danish cowboy boots and even received a compliment from the local boot seller. I dug out a few pairs of Frame skinny jeans with a good deal of stretch and they are incredibly comfortable — even on all-day rides. Weather permitting, we are heading up to Wasson Creek tomorrow, and home Saturday. Hope everyone is enjoying summer!

Doubles Dilemma

At lunch with a friend last week, the waitress remarked that she loved my sunglasses. Weirdly, I get complimented on this Saint Laurent pair a lot. The Row Pumps

I’ve been eyeing pumps by The Row — three seasons of pumps, actually. Do I want the Spring pumps with an elongated almond toe and warped kitten heel? The Pre-Fall flats? Or, wait for the Resort pumps with a block heel. I’m leaning toward the latter.

Dear Dad

I may not have known you well, but I know a lot about you. You loved to sail, especially the Ataraxy our catboat. The definition of Ataraxy is a state of serene calmness. In ancient Greece, the Epicureans most famously sought the state of ataraxia, which they considered to be true happiness. You, also, loved to fish and camp, make beach plum jelly, play paddle tennis, listen to classical music, and watch jet trails. An esteemed aeronautical engineer, you tested what the astronauts were to eat in space on my older siblings. I was the latecomer to the family, which fractured after a horrendous car accident while on a family ski trip five years later. After a visit with you in Washington, D.C. when I was a teenager, I realized that we were actually alike in many ways and that made me feel much closer to you. And now, I see a lot of you in my daughters and I’m comforted by the knowledge that you live on in all of us.
